In 2004, a group of parents from Axular Lizeoa school (Donostia/San Sebastián) created GERO, with the intention of advancing a little more in the field of the basque dances. The group is aware that the objective should not only be to keep and take care of our culture, but to work it and take steps forward. In result, so far, they have released seven original shows: Sasi artean, Lamien basoa, Talaia, Xereta, Argizaiola, Itzal galdua and Agorrila. They have been created to update our dances, adorning them with other music, painting them with lights and pampering them with current techniques and instruments, thus achieving attractive, modern and exciting works.
So far, we have participated in 44 folk festivals and offered more than 200 performances (among others, in France, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Hungary, Poland, Scotland, Serbia, Croatia, Denmark and Slovenia). And not only in festivals, we have also participated in dance competitions: in 2011, we went to Llangollen (Wales), and won two first prizes in the categories of traditional dance group and solo dancer; and in 2015 we danced in Grozny (Russia), and obtained the special prize from the Chechen Ministry of Culture.
